Vocollect Continues Innovation in Voice-Directed Work™ with Pocket-sized Talkman T5® Wearable Computer
Now DC managers can deploy three platforms for Voice-Directed Distribution™ in the same facility
PITTSBURGH—January 17th, 2006—Vocollect, the global leader in Voice-Directed Work, today unveiled the newest addition to its family of wearable computers, the Talkman T5. Amongst the smallest industrial-grade wearable computers ever built, the pocket-sized T5’s advanced functionality and ergonomics deliver consistent and dependable performance in demanding industrial environments.
The introduction of the Talkman T5 brings the number of options customers have for performing Voice-Directed Distribution applications to three:
1. The industry-standard Talkman T2x
2. Vocollect Voice for Symbol’s® MC9060S mobile computer series
3. The Talkman T5 next-generation wearable computer – perfected after nearly 20 years of working with clients to deliver accuracy and productivity in industrial environments
“The Talkman T5 provides a new dimension for wearable computing and voice technology in the workplace,” said Ed Krupka, president of Burris Information Technology. “Smaller, lighter, and faster, this platform shows promise for Burris
Logistics to more easily employ voice solutions throughout the warehouse for all key activities.”
The Talkman T5 offers a number of new advantages, including:
Bluetooth® Wireless Connectivity – The use of untethered peripheral devices like belt-worn printers, diagnostic equipment and bar code readers enhances worker productivity and safety.
Automatic Operator Load – After connecting their headset, the operator’s voice templates (profile) are downloaded automatically, enabling team members to begin working in seconds.
Battery Management – The T5’s high-performance smart battery provides details on run time since a full charge from Vocollect’s VoiceConsole™ deployment management software.
Increased Comfort – The pocket-sized T5 is 33% smaller and 45% lighter than its predecessor the Talkman T2x, and offers exceptional freedom of mobility.
Honey, They’ve Shrunk the Talkman
“Like the iPod®, the Talkman T5 represents a paradigm shift,” said Larry Sweeney, vice president of product management and Vocollect co-founder. “Just as the iPod changed the way we view music, the small, lightweight, Bluetooth-enabled T5 will revolutionize how people use voice to direct work.”
The T5 wearable voice computer integrates the 416MHz Intel® PXA270 XScale® processor with Microsoft’s® Windows® CE operating system. In addition, Wireless Intel SpeedStep® Technology is utilized to effectively manage power and enable full shift usage.
“Vocollect has been quick to incorporate the latest high-performance, low-power, extension to the Intel XScale® microarchitecture into the design of its Talkman T5 wearable computer,” said Scott Emley, industrial marketing development manager, Intel Corporation. “Vocollect’s ability to capitalize on Intel’s technical innovations is bringing more mobile computing power at a lower cost to industrial users.”
